July 17,2014 Update
It’s been a while since we last updated all of our friends and prayer warriors…Patrick has completed his 5 rounds of anti body therapy 2 weeks ago (almost 6 months of total treatment time)….hallelujah!!!! We next await his scans which are scheduled for August 20th….pray that they will be clean!! With no more in-hospital treatment scheduled (he does have some at home medicines he takes) Patrick is having a very much deserved and needed break…he and his brother Trent are being best friend “kids” again…swimming, going to movies and playing video games.
The plan is to start back to school this fall and have his biggest prayer answered “that I can be a “normal” kid again!”…with Gods grace he will be!!!
Thank you for all your help and prayers….we ask that you continue to pray that we’re near then end of this chapter and closer to fulfilling Gods true plan for Patrick…he deserves all the blessings God has in store for him.
God bless all of you
Thank you Lt Gov Dewhurst for all you do for Texas and the wonderful hospitality you showed us when we visited the Capital!
May 16, 2014 Update
What a day! We’re glad it’s over. We stressed and worry so much during the scan weeks. Patrick had a hard day. The nurses had a hard time setting his IV. We heard from the doctors a little bit ago. The good news is that he has no new cancer….thank you Jesus! but unfortunately no further reduction. However….. The doctor told us that his primary oncologist may decide to biopsy the area on his head just to make sure it isn’t some other type of cancer. Laurie has questioned this spot in the past. Specifically, we have asked the doctor if it could be possible that a scar on his head holds onto the MIBG radiation and therefore lights up on the scans. Wouldn’t that be wonderful if Laurie is correct and that is scar tissue lighting up on the scan and not cancer. Oh Lord, Please pray She is right!!!
Thank you for all your prayers Patrick and all of us feel them working.
We appreciate and pray for each and every one of you!
Update April 6, 2014
Thank you for all of your prayers….they are working.
Patrick finished 2 weeks of therapy on Saturday April 5th…we know The Lord has been watching over him because the level of discomfort that is usually associated with this treatment did not materialize. Patrick was uncomfortable and had some side effects but on a scale of 1 - 10 (10 being bad) his pain was a 3….thank you Jesus!
He will spend the next 3 weeks recovering before going back in for additional treatment.
Feel free to reach out to Patrick he always enjoys hearing from everyone.
Again, thank you for all of your prayers.
Patrick starts anti body therapy at 0900 cst tomorrow (Monday March 4th 2014)….please pray that The anti bodies find their mark, the cancer is destroyed and his pain is minimal….this is a painful treatment. He will be on therapy for 10 hours…we lift our little boy up to the Lord….thank you for all your prayers……we feel them…. they are working.
February 2014 Update…Praise Report!
Thank you all of you who have been praying for Patrick this past 15 months….the prayers are working and his attitude reflects the love he feels from each and everyone of you….God is listening!
Patrick has gone through a significant amount of treatment over the last several months (bone marrow transplant, general radiation and focused radiation along with stem cell transplant..ugh…alot). Through it all he has maintained an amazing attitude about the process and his life…we all can learn a lot from this child, he is wise beyond his years.
Recently he finished all of his scans and tests and we are thanking God for the great results. Before this last round of treatment he had cancer showing in both of his legs, his shoulder, skull and bone marrow. Now he only has a slight amount showing on the top of his skull….this is wonderful news!!!! Thank you Jesus!
He will begin another set of treatment protocols February 28th that will last until the end of August. This protocol will involve experimental treatment known as “Anti-Body Therapy”. What’s involved is the introduction of proteins that attach to the cancer and serve as a marker for the anti-bodies. The anti-bodies will be attracted to the proteins and destroy the cancer cells. This is an experimental and difficult treatment (it is painful because it attacks his nerve endings….think of dental work…exposed nerve…ouch!) that will involve hospital stay of 1 week and 2 weeks recovery, this will go on for 5 rounds. In between we will be giving him home treatments that involve oral medication along with booster shots to help his recovery.
I can not put into words the meaning of his nick name “Capt Courageous” because he is often challenged by what lies ahead but he is always ready to…as he says “do whatever it takes”…..he is our HERO!!!! God Bless him!!!
Again, thank you for all of your prayers they do have great meaning and we do see all the positives they bring into Patricks life.
We love you and thank God for each and everyone of you.
Left the hospital after 5 weeks on Monday!!!!! It is good to be going home. Thank you for all your prayers.
Thank You Texas Childrens Hospital for the fun we had at the Celebration of Champions lunch!!!
